Edward Mann

The chair of Guernsey Judo Club has been nominated as Sports Volunteer of the Year for more than 10 years of service. 
Edward Mann is originally from Scarborough. He has loved competitive judo since his youth – at one point training with some of the Great Britain Olympic team while at university. 
In 2010, he received his first coaching qualification. 
‘As part of coming over, judo helped me set up in Guernsey,' he said.
Mr Mann has many duties with the club. He organises competitions, sorts out grading, and also coaches. He also praised others who help run the club. 
‘I do have my wife as secretary. She’s really the backbone of it all,’ he said. 
One highlight of running the club was that at one point during Covid, Guernsey Judo was the only club part of the British Judo association still running. 
‘It was a good feeling to be in Guernsey and we could still train – we gave to the community.’ 
His nominator, who has chosen to stay anonymous, said Mr Mann has been ‘the driving force behind Guernsey Judo, dedicating countless hours to ensuring the club thrives. 
‘His commitment has been instrumental in giving local judokas the opportunity to have their sport recognised and considered for future Island Games participation.’
