Dr Amy Gilmour has been nominated for Angel of the Year
About
Dr Amy Gilmour is grateful to be nominated for the award.
As a counselling psychologist, Dr Gilmour works predominantly with adults who have experienced diverse events and trauma, and struggle with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. She said that her work was extremely interesting yet can be very emotional.
‘My favourite part of my work is when I can see the shift and change in somebody when they believe in themselves again’, she said. ‘They begin to see their worth again’.
Having always wanted to work helping others, Dr Gilmour said that she took an interest in psychology as a teenager, and is now a doctor with over 20 years of experience.
‘Dr Gilmour has transformed my life in ways I never believed were possible’, said her nominator Catherine Cameron.
Miss Cameron received support from Dr Gilmour for over two years as a part of the States of Guernsey’s Healthy Minds initiative. ‘She created a safe space where I felt truly listened to, understood and accepted without judgment. It’s given me so much strength. I can finally be the mum that I want to be for my children.
‘Amy doesn’t just do her job – she changes lives. She believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself, and the person I am today is a reflection of her unwavering kindness, dedication and support. I will always be grateful for everything she has done, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award.’
