Dr Alia Andersson
Dr Alia Andersson has been nominated for the Angel of the Year Award.
About
Currently working at St Sampson’s Medical Centre, Dr Andersson has been a doctor for 16 years and has been nominated for going above and beyond.
Shania Rocha is a patient of Dr Andersson at Island Health and has nominated her for her continuous support dealing with her condition. ‘She is truly exceptional. She has an incredibly kind heart and has made sure I’ve had the right support to best deal with my condition,’ said Miss Rocha.
‘Her patients are at the heart of what she does and she always puts them first.’
Delighted to have been nominated, Dr Andersson felt ‘truly humbled and beyond honoured to have been thought of for this nomination.’
The journey into the profession was not plain sailing for Dr Andersson. Initially she did not make the grades she needed in her A-levels, and was devastated. After completing a degree in podiatry at UCL she was then able to go on and study medicine.
‘For me, being the GP that I want to be, has come not only from my own life experiences and my studies but mainly through my patients and what they have taught me.
‘Knowing that I can be there for my patients, for better or worse, is something that is a real privilege.’
