Danielle Barnett

Danielle Barnett has been nominated for the award for her work in founding and organizing Race for Life and raising money for Cancer Research UK.
‘My sister had breast cancer when she was very young and I also carry the gene. It is really important to me and it is very close to home,’ said Danielle. 
Around 200 people came to the first race in 2022, said Mrs Barnett, and every year it keeps on growing with around 1,000 people now attending. 
‘What began as one woman’s determination has grown over five years into a permanent and much loved fixture in the island’s annual calendar,’ said nominator Vikki Hammond. 
After Covid there was no event to raise money for cancer research in Guernsey, so Danielle decided to found and organize Race for Life. 
‘Since 2022, Danielle has been the driving force behind Our Race for Life in Guernsey raising an incredible £150,000 for Cancer Research UK,’ she said. 
Another nominator, Warwick Helps, said, ‘Danielle’s dedication has created more than just a fundraising event – it has restored a cherished community tradition that brings people together with hope, compassion and purpose. 
‘Her leadership has changed lives, uplifted families and ensure Guernsey continues to have a space where hope, solidarity and action thrive. To me, that is exactly what a Bailiwick Community Hero looks like.’
