Cole Foad

Cole Foad has been nominated for Young Achiever of the Year

About

The youngest person from Guernsey to speak in the House of Commons has been nominated for the award.
Cole Foad was 14 years old when he delivered a speech on mental and physical health statistics in Guernsey in November last year. He talked about how social media is affecting young people and what could be done to abate the use of it.
‘Receiving this nomination is a huge honour and privilege, and something I genuinely never expected. It’s opened doors to advocacy and the things I’m truly passionate about, allowing me to give back to the island that has given me so much.
‘Earlier this year I was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. My family, friends, teachers and the Youth Commission continually encouraged me to take opportunities that I might once have thought were beyond me.
‘Whether it was public speaking, debating, interviews or leadership roles, I have realised that when you have the right people around you, you can achieve anything.’
Cole has also become a senior prefect and started his own business in the last year.
‘Looking back on this year, I’m incredibly proud - not because of any one achievement, but because of how much I’ve grown as a person.’
