Clare Giles

The headteacher of St Martin’s Primary School has been nominated for the award. 
‘How lovely to be nominated but the real credit goes to our children and staff,’ said Clare Giles.
‘Sustainability is at the heart of everything we teach and do, and we’re committed to making a positive difference for both our community and the environment.’ 
Mrs Giles said that installing eco-conscious habits early on equips children to have the confidence and knowledge they need to use their voices for change. 
‘Recently, our children designed and planted St Martin’s Meadow to boost local biodiversity and attract pollinators. They also led the restoration of our school pond, removing invasive species, introducing submergent and marginal plants. 
‘Most notably, our pioneering School Street initiative drastically reduced carbon emissions while promoting active travel, serving as a successful model for other schools to follow. 
‘Our aim is to empower our children to lead meaningful environmental action, inspiring change that lasts for generations. It is incredible to see the real impact they are already making.’ 
‘Clare has done a lot for our family,’ said nominator Sharon Gallienne. ‘She really goes out of her way to help anybody who needs it. 
‘She is always so bubbly and nothing ever seems to be too much for her.’
