Charlie Matthews

CHARLIE MATTHEWS has been nominated for Young Achiever of the Year.

About

Eight-year-old Charlie was nominated by his mum, Lucy Matthews, for his bravery and maturity in leading his four-year-old brother home after the school bus took a wrong turn and the pair missed their stop.
‘Recognising the situation, Charlie calmly got off the bus at the next stop,’ said Mrs Matthews.
‘I didn’t even know he knew the way home, but he did it all by himself.’
Charlie held his brother Xavi’s hand the whole way and continuously reassured him. Charlie also looked both ways before crossing and positioned his brother close to the wall to protect him from any danger. ‘I was feeling scared, I went on the danger side so he wouldn’t get hurt,’ Charlie said.
‘He did all the right things you would hope a child would do,’ said Mrs Matthews.
Charlie and his brother made it home after walking for just over a mile. Once home, Charlie used his iPad to contact his grandparents, who informed Mrs Matthews the children were safe. She was out looking for them and following the same route as the bus.
