Celia Allen

Celia Allen has been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero

About

Coming from five generations of lifeboat men, Ms Allen says that fundraising for the RNLI seemed like the right thing to do.‘I am thrilled and honoured to have been nominated,’ she said.
‘What I have most enjoyed over the years is being able to work with so many very dedicated people. I hope to continue as long as I am able.’
Ms Allen serves as fundraising chair for the local RNLI and also chairs the team that runs the Mostly Books charity shop in Commercial Arcade, which raises funds for the lifeboat and Guernsey Samaritans.
She has also been involved in securing funding and enabling opportunities for students to attend the London International Youth Science Forum.
‘I was unable to find sponsors in Guernsey, so we decided to fund it ourselves. This is the 30th year, so I sent six students instead of the usual four,’ she said.
Nominator Joseph Blake said: ‘Celia does an awful lot for the community in Guernsey without anyone ever knowing it. She works tirelessly fundraising for the RNLI in Guernsey, both in the shops and out and about, as well as giving up countless hours to go to schools to give the students the joy of learning about the lifeboats and seeing the kit.
‘Celia also sponsors students to attend the London International Youth Science Forum, giving them life-changing Stem [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] opportunities completely free.’
