Brehon Ward

Brehon Ward has been nominated for Angel of the Year

About

‘We try to provide a home away from home’, said the Brehon Ward team, which has been nominated for the award. ‘We’re very, very proud to be nominated’.
Made up of 39 staff members, the Brehon Ward is a dementia and complex care needs ward, which provides care for individuals with neurological and physical care needs.
‘The most rewarding thing is being able to put a smile on our patients’ faces every day’, said senior nurse Martina Stanfield. ‘We try to be like family members for them’.
The team is made up of nurses, carers, nutritionists, and activities co-ordinators. ‘Everybody plays a part. There’s no “I” in team’, said Mrs Stanfield.
‘The care and love the staff give patients living in Brehon Ward is unmatched’, said the team’s anonymous nominator. ‘The team truly build such a vital bond and friendship with those depending on them for care.
‘No family ever wants to see a loved one have to leave their home, but coming to somewhere like this makes it all that bit easier.
‘Although it is so hard missing someone so dearly, we know they are in the best possible place with the kindest people around them. True angels.’
