About
Brandon Ashplant is a local writer, producer, director and actor within the film industry who has founded a production company Golden Goat Films.
His accolades include Whispers Of Freedom and Bet Your Bottom Dollar, and several short films.
‘He has been nurturing contacts in the film industry for Guernsey, embedding Guernsey into the international film scene,’ said his nominator.
‘The more Guernsey is recognised for a place to make film, the more opportunities will arise.’
Mr Ashplant got into filmmaking at a very young age, using Lego and clay to produce stop-motion animation films.
The biggest highlight of his career so far is turning Guernsey Water’s Kings Mills site into a segment of the Berlin Wall for Whispers Of Freedom. ‘Finding and then set-dressing a local site to look like the inner strip of
the Berlin Wall was challenging but very rewarding,’ he said.
‘Guernsey consistently punches above its weight, be it in sport, the arts and business. In the last five or six years this has extended into the realm of filmmaking. It’s really exciting to see an industry growing out of nowhere.
‘Guernsey filmmakers really embody the “Guernsey Together” mantra, collaborating in good spirits to share knowledge and learn from each other. I think Guernsey has some of the finest actors in the world.
‘It’s very exciting to see a unique part of the creative economy emerging in Guernsey over the past few years, and I’m excited to just be a small part of it. Filmmaking is a collaborative art form, and so I share this with the teams I have worked with on my various filmmaking ventures.’
