Bernie Coutu

Bernie Coutu was very pleased to hear of her nomination for Bailiwick Community Hero, calling from her friend’s house which she was cleaning free of charge to prepare for her friend’s return from respite. 
‘She is always doing something for the community,’ said her nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous. ‘She does a lot of charity work, raising money, cleaning bins, and volunteering at the youth hut on the bridge so that young people have a place to go for a chat or to charge their phones, for a drink or something to eat. 
‘She does her best to help everyone in any way she can.’ 
Mrs Coutu founded the Bridge Neighbourhood Watch 16 years ago, looking after the area and launching initiatives like the youth hut to provide young islanders a safe space. 
‘Neighbourhood watch is something I enjoy doing,’ said Mrs Coutu. ‘I like to help out. We were all brought up to share.’ 
Mrs Coutu recently received a letter of thanks from the police for her involvement with the Neighbourhood Watch over the better half of two decades.
Mrs Coutu especially enjoys helping out the local kids and contributing to making the island a better place for them to grow up in.
