Anthea Roue

Anthea Roue has been nominated for the Diversity and Inclusion Award.

About

Mrs Roue has been teaching at Le Rondin School for two years and has been nominated for her commitment that goes on both in and beyond the classroom.
Described by her nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous, as a ‘tireless champion for children working with learning needs,’ Mrs Roue has touched the hearts of many. ‘Anthea is more than an educator, she is a community builder and inclusion leader,’ said her nominator.
‘Her unwavering belief in equity and opportunity for all children continues to make a powerful and lasting impact on countless of lives.’
Outside of the classroom and in her own time, Mrs Roue has set up Stay and Play Guernsey, an inclusive play centre designed to support children with disabilities and additional needs as well as their families.
The centre is run mainly by donations and some sponsorship. ‘Anthea never hesitates to give her time, energy, and heart to the cause,’ said her nominator.
Mrs Roue is the parent of a child with learning needs herself.
‘It can be very lonely, so the centre provides a sustainable space for parents to share and realise that they are not alone.
‘It’s really special to be recognised and nice to know that I’ve genuinely made a difference.’
