Anne Thomas
ANNE THOMAS has been nominated for the Bailiwick Community Hero Award for her contribution to the parish of St Peter’s.
About
‘I love the doing, the organising, the achieving and ultimately seeing the benefits gained from the community’s engagement, especially when you know the great impact it has for others,’ she said.
For the past three years, Ms Thomas has volunteered her time as events organiser for the Liberation celebrations at L’Eree, playing a pivotal role in the planning and funding of the event.
She was praised by her nominators, John Bourgaize and Pam Mourant, for her involvement this year in facilitating community conversations with Princess Anne about the Occupation, and the lived experience of islanders during the war.
‘If Anne doesn’t get recognised, it would be a crime against nature,’ said Mr Bourgaize.
‘She deserves the highest respect for all the work she did for the 80th Liberation Day celebration.’
‘It was extremely heart-warming to see the value, respect, and appreciation that the opportunity for personal conversations with the Princess Royal held for those in our community,’ said Ms Thomas.
Ms Thomas is also centre manager at Styx Community Centre, where she helps with community lunches, which Mrs Mourant attends each Thursday.
‘Nothing’s too much for her,’ said Mrs Mourant. ‘She really, really deserves it.’
Ms Thomas is currently taking a break from volunteering to focus on her personal life.
‘Undoubtedly, however, supporting others wherever possible remains firmly embedded in my psyche.
'So, I’m sure there will be other events or projects to
contribute to soon.’
