Ace Elite Cheerleading

Ace Elite Cheerleading has been nominated for Sports Volunteer of the Year for its dedication to the girls, the club and because it ‘treats the group like one big family’. 
Becky Bailey, Chloe Sargent, and Caitlin Roussel all trained as cheerleaders themselves before coaching. 
Founder Ms Bailey said they aimed to create a supportive environment where every athlete is encouraged to reach their full potential. 
‘We know first-hand the confidence, friendships, and opportunities that cheerleading can bring, and we wanted to give young people in Guernsey the chance to experience that too.’ 
‘The community is lovely, welcoming, and open,’ said Ms Sargent. ‘It’s built my confidence. You don’t know what you know until you teach.’ 
Their nominator, Karen Bell, spoke positively about their effect on the children they teach. 
‘My granddaughter is in it. It’s good for building her confidence.’ 
Going to sessions is fun for her, said Mrs Bell, because she learns new skills all the time. The team is good, and the coaches respect and support the girls. 
She also complimented the coaches’ initiative as they are a new team ‘and it’s hard to start a business’.
This year the coaches organised for the team to represent Guernsey at a competition in Birmingham. 
Another nominator said it was an exceptional challenge, as teams with great experience came from all across the country. 
‘The girls were proud of being there with their coaches,’ they said. 
Ms Bailey said the most rewarding part of coaching was seeing the children grow. 
‘It’s about resilience, teamwork, and giving our athletes experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives.’
