Who’s behind it, the history of the awards, how it works

For the last 10 years the Guernsey Press has been running the Pride of Guernsey Awards. For more than 200 years we have been at the heart of island life and our community. We want to pay tribute to those who make a special contribution, such as great sports volunteers or teachers, outstanding nurses or emergency services crews, loving grandparents or selfless carers.

Our raft of awards acknowledge such efforts, which until now have gone largely unrecognised. Nominated by readers, it is our community’s chance to say thank-you to those ordinary people whose extraordinary acts make an awe-inspiring difference to so many lives.

As the nominations come in our team of reporters interview the nominees to tell their stories in the pages of the newspaper. Once nominations close and their stories have been shared, voting for your top three in each category opens and then from that shortlist a judging panel with the sponsor, a Guernsey Press representative, and an independent judge will choose the winner to be announced on awards evening in October.
